the dreamer.: Stand Against Onision’s Hateful Behavior
It’s been over a week since youtube partner Onision made an incredibly personal attack on his ex girlfriend public for his tens of thousands of youtube followers and fans to see. He then created a series of videos (mirrored) which only exacerbated the situation. In doing so, he…
So I watched a couple of the mirrored videos ,including the first one mentioned in this post, and yeah I do understand that no matter how many people you’ve slept with you can still be raped I think that’s just common knowledge that it can happen to anyone but when watching the other videos it mainly seemed to me like he was just giving his opinions . I don’t necessarily agree with his opinions completely but I have no say in what he thinks . In the video first mentioned I can see how it might be taken as personal but he never mentioned the girl’s name in the video he just referred to the girl as ‘her’ and ‘she’ which means that unless you knew of the girl in the first place you would never know who it was. Plus he was trying to defend himself from someone publicly saying personal things about him that may or may not have been true no one was there with them the only people that know what happened are him and the girl that was with him. I do think that it may have been best for him to get some sort of lawyer if there was indeed a letter released about what had happened but that’s not typically how he does things . I don’t really take this whole thing seriously ( not to say that rape isn’t a serious thing because it most definitely is) but he’s said controversial things before. Some of the videos I do think should be flagged because the topics he goes into aren’t exactly appropriate for every age to be viewing but other than that if the girl he was talking about found the video so offensive then she can take legal action against him . It’s their personal issues not yours and I kinda think people online not involved in the situation at all should just mind their own business and stay out of it .
Ooook, let me try to tackle this.
It is actually a very unfortunate fact that women are told by their rapists that nobody will believe them because they are sluts. If this is something you haven’t experienced first hand, you’re very lucky. This video had rape victims coming out of the woodwork discussing how they were either specifically told the exact same thing that he said, or somehow made to feel like they wouldn’t have a case against the guy who raped them because of their history of enjoying and participating in casual sex. I would love for you to do a bit of research on what rape culture is and what effect it has on women.
And even beyond simply being told that, there is a history of women’s sexual history being brought up in court cases in order to slander the woman’s name and say that she must have wanted sex because she has sex all the time. It’s so bad that they actually created rape shield laws too combat this phenomenon. The sentiment he expressed is unfortunately an all too common one. I have seen it, I’ve experienced it first hand, and I’ve heard countless stories about it. It is not the type of thing that I want pre-teens and teenagers hearing from someone they look up to. Also note that the one statement regularly quoted was not the only statement like this he made. Maybe I’ll take some time later to quote the worst of the worst to show how bad it really was.
Whether or not these are just his opinions, these are the opinions that RAPISTS use to victimize and shame women into submission. These are oppressive opinions. Would you be supporting his opinions if they were racist? We have to start understanding as a society that oppressive opinions lead to oppressive actions. The KKK didn’t form out of nowhere. It came from a group of white men who were pissed off that black people were starting to become free and that they couldn’t claim ownership over them anymore. It started with opinions that white men should rule over black men. And when they got pissed off enough in sharing these opinions, they took action on them.
Oppressive opinions hurt people. Yes, we have freedom of speech, but with that freedom comes responsibility. Even moreso when the person expressing those opinions has a wide audience. Hopefully this makes a little more sense to you why this is so important.
As for him talking about, but not naming his ex. Anyone who pays even the slightest amount of attention to Onision knows who he’s talking about. He knew that he didn’t have to name her to slander her because he has made all of his relationships extremely public. We all know who his wife and girlfriends have been. If this information wasn’t so obvious, and he was just talking about some mystery girl, it would still be really sleazy information to share, but not nearly as serious. The things he said about her, like claiming she’d had a bunch of abortions and stuff, come on! If she did tell him that, she told him in confidence, and he had no right to share that with other people.
If he was the “good person” that he claims to be, he would’ve taken the high road and left her alone. But the timing of this video was suspiciously around the same time his last relationship went sour and she came across a new, positive relationship. He didn’t do this to combat the letter (which, if he did, it was very stupid, because he just sent more people who didn’t know about it before in search of it, and it led them to the part where she repeatedly said no to him and he pressed on anyways… um… rape?), he did this to hurt her new relationship because he was jealous that he was lonely and she wasn’t.
And if he wanted us to stay out of it, he shouldn’t have posted it online, to a channel with tens of thousands of subscribers, now should he?
